Exchanging his fortune and future
By the end of World War II, Schindler exchanged his entire fortune to bribe authorities in order to salvage his workers' lives. Soon after the war had ended, Schindler emigrated to Argentina to avoid being arrested as a war criminal. There, Schindler attempted to farm, but by 1958, his business went bankrupt. Furthermore, Schindler left his wife and returned to West Germany where he had a failed endeavor in the cement business. Again, he declared bankruptcy in 1963. Schindler survived the rest of his life with minimal donations from Schindlerjuden, and on October 9, 1974, Schindler died penniless.
